Have you ever had a moment that felt more than just a moment; something that is difficult to even put into words?! Well today I had one. I got a message from a lovely person in my Facebook group whom I’ve never met. A simple message but a very powerful one, so much so that it has inspired this blog post.
In response to a comment on a post in the group this person wrote to me:
You have inspired me more than you know. Thank you so much.
Simple words, right? The meaning however was beyond simplistic and I truly felt touched by the power and intention behind them. I had no idea I had impacted this person and whilst I’m in the profession of helping, guiding, supporting and inspiring people to create positive change it is still very humbling to know that what I am doing is actually making a difference in the lives of others. But it's not just me, it's all of us.
Those that follow my page will know that I post something I’m grateful for each day. Many years ago I did a year in gratitude on my own personal page and posted a photo each day of something I was grateful for. At the end of the year I had many comments from people that I didn’t even realise were following the posts telling me about how inspiring they found them, how it made them think about things in their own lives and how they were going to miss seeing these posts. I had no idea! And that was brought home to me again today.
Even if you don’t always feel like your positivity is making a difference, it is. For every positive word, every positive post, every positive action, you are sending out positivity into the world and you never know who is on the other end catching it. You may not get gratification or validation that it’s making a difference but have faith that somehow and somewhere it is.
A smile on someone’s face, a little piece of happiness in someone’s heart, a glimmer of hope in someone’s day is more powerful than we sometimes remember and realise. I give thanks to the lovely person who delivered me this timely reminder today. I am truly grateful.
Yay to the power of positivity. Spread your joy and gratitude everywhere!
