The full moon is the halfway mark of the monthly moon cycle. The sun, earth and the moon are in perfect alignment, with the sun illuminating the side of the moon we can see from earth.
Whilst we may feel the moon power more when it is full – because we are more illuminated by it - the moon or its power does not change. It is forever powerful. It is simply the orbital direction of the moon around earth and where the sun is shining on it that changes what we can see.
So although this post includes guidance on releasing with the full moon, the moon energy actually supports releasing and letting go for a full two week cycle. Then the lunar cycle starts again and builds momentum back to the full moon. So you can perform the releasing at any time between the full and new moon. However, due to the illumination energy of the full moon, releasing rituals are mostly practiced the day before, the day of, or the day after the full moon –in alignment with celebration and gratitude.
FULL MOON – A TIME OF CELEBRATION
We often get carried away by the day-to-day tasks, chores and responsibilities and can easily forget the importance of taking time to acknowledge and celebrate our achievements and successes. So use the full moon as your opportunity to celebrate achievements, blessings, friends, family, life, or yourself.
It is a great time to connect with others too, especially to feast and be merry, so plan a special meal, either on your own or with those you love. Use your favourite cutlery, crockery, tableware, etc, and to connect more with the energy of the moon, make this type of celebrating a monthly ritual.
FULL MOON – A TIME OF GRATITUDE
If you are celebrating with family and friends you may wish to practice your gratitude together and voice what you are each grateful for. If you are doing ritual work on your own however, get yourself a journal or notebook and something to write with and write out a list of the things you are grateful for. Make it as comprehensive as you can and try to complete a whole page. Allow your heart to truly feel the blessing as you write each one.
The moon energy supports creativity too, so get out the coloured pens or pencils, stickers or embellishments, and make it your own. You don’t have to write a traditional list, you may wish to scatter words or sentences across the page and use colour to decorate. Let your creativity and your imagination run free!
FULL MOON – A TIME OF RELEASING AND LETTING GO
Before you begin a releasing ritual, it is important to create your sacred space. Intention is more powerful than anything so if you don’t have the means or opportunity to do some of the things outlined below, that is okay. Simply create a sacred space in whatever way works for you.
To create your sacred space, ensure it is free from dirt and clutter and try to have it somewhere where it’s quiet or you can do your inner work without being interrupted. You may choose to light a candle, have crystals around you, use fresh flowers, coloured materials, etc. If you can, have gentle music playing in the background. Also have a journal or notebook and something to write with.
Once you have your sacred space set, begin by calling upon the energy of Mother Moon and Archangel Haniel. Here is an example of what you can say, but please go by your own intuition:
Dear mother moon and Archangel Haniel. I call upon you to help bring forth any blockages or issues that I need to release for my highest good. Bring them to the forefront of my mind or my intuition so I can easily identify them. I am ready to embrace my personal power so that I can fulfil my divine life purpose. Thank you.
What has been blocking you or stopping you from moving on or achieving your goals? What have you been holding on to that is no longer serving your higher purpose? Maybe you need to release thought processes, patterns, behaviours, memories, situations, people, material possessions, etc.
Then using your pen and journal/notebook, write down the things you want to release. It may be one or two things or it may be a whole page. Be guided by your own intuition.
Once you have completed your list, call upon Archangel Michael to help you cut the energetic cords to each one of the things you have written down. Here is an example of wat you can say, but again be guided by your own intuition:
Dear Archangel Michael. I call upon you and your mighty sword to cut the energetic cords between myself and (the person/issue/situation). I am ready to release and let this go with love. I understand that I no longer need to hold on to this attachment, so I hand it over. I am ready to let go of the past and embrace a more positive future. Thank you.
Use visualisation to assist you with your ritual too. Imagine AA Michael’s sword cutting the cords. I personally also like to visualise pulling the attachment left on my body out so that it is released completely.
Once you’ve finished this process, find a heat proof bowl or vessel and burn your list safely. Scatter the ashes outside under the moonlight and allow yourself to feel the relief of letting your burdens go!
What to do after the releasing ritual
It is important to note here that everyone is different. For some people, performing this ritual will be all they need. However, for others (especially if it's been something you've been holding on to for a long time) you may need to repeat this process a few times.
Be gentle with yourself, follow your intuition and be guided by the signs from spirit; they're always there.
Happy Full Moon!!
